Youthwize Young Carers Project / South Hams and West Devon

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

The project aims:
To listen to young carers and respect their views
To give time and privacy to children and young people who may want to talk about their situation
To acknowledge that the concept of young caring is a way that some families cope with disability
To consider the needs of the children and young people arising from their caring role
To consider whether the child’s or young person’s social, emotional, educational or physical well being are being impaired by the caring responsibility
To provide information on the full range of support services and contact points

 

The Project offers:
One-to-one support, information and advocacy
Respite
Weekly support groups
Activities, outings, project work, drama, music, art and media workshops
Awareness raising in schools and other agencies

Young Carers Consultation – ‘What they ask for’
Information
Positive images of disability
Somewhere to go to talk
To be accepted and understood,
Help if they are being bullied
Confidentiality, emotional support and understanding
Help at school
To have a voice.
