Young Devon runs counselling services within centres and schools around Devon. At the present time there are services operating in:
We accept referrals from GPs, Schools, Connexions, Social Services, other Youth Workers etc as well as direct self-referrals. The age range covered is 12 – 25yrs.
There are currently 3 Counselling Coordinators and 1 assistant Coordinator running teams of unpaid counsellors, many of whom are fully trained with completed diplomas in counselling. The rest of the team are trainee counsellors who are doing the practice hours required by their courses. The counsellors are supervised either in-house by a coordinator or by an external supervisor.
The counsellors have generic training and work with a wide range of issues. These can include, family and/or school difficulties, abuse (physical, sexual, emotional or neglect), bereavement, trauma, identity issues, self-esteem, anger management, depression.
Clients are seen for as many sessions as are needed, and while many clients will only require between 4 and 10 sessions, there will be some for whom many more sessions are necessary.
