PAUL NOVAK

Paul Novak has worked with young people for most of his working life. Having trained as a teacher and worked in FE Paul started work for Devon County Council’s Youth Service in the late 80’s as a Youth Tutor.
Paul worked in Totnes, Dartmouth and South Dartmoor and was responsible for a number of youth work developments in south Devon including the early establishment of advice and information services for young people. Paul finished his time with DCC as a Head of Community Education with a responsibility for adult education as well as youth work in the south Dartmoor area. This lead to an increased knowledge of accreditation pathways that recognised young peoples’ personal and social development.
Paul was appointed to a national post with the Prince’s Trust as programme developer for the flagship xl network programme. This lead to a post with ASDAN (the UK’s leading Awarding Body for personal and social development) as UK Work Related Learning Coordinator establishing new pathways for non formal learning. Whilst working in partnership with the National Youth Agency, Paul was a co-author of ‘Recording Young People’s Progress and Accreditation in Youth Work’ (NYA Dec ’05) the document responsible for developing the criteria for accreditation levels and standards within England’s statutory youth service.
Paul was first appointed a Trustee of DYA (now Young Devon) in 1994.
