Payroll Giving
In 2005 a project, funded by the Home Office, was set up to give grants to all small and medium-sized businesses which introduced a payroll giving scheme. This grants programme is still available until March 2007 so hurry!
Using a Payroll Giving scheme, gives an employee the choice to make a monthly donation to a charity straight from their salary. Because the income tax can be claimed back by the charity, whatever the employee donates, the charity receives more.
So the company gets paid without having to pay anything – just for enabling employees to make a personal donation!
In addition to the grant, the Government will match the first £10 of each employee’s gift to charity each month, for the first 6 months of payment. This means that £10 donated each month costs the employee only £7.80 (for employees paying standard rate tax, or £6 for higher rate taxpayers) but will be worth £20 every month to the charity.
